Glossary: This part takes up an entire third of the book, it's so big it's almost a dictionary in its own right, and a pretty damn good one at that, were it not so outdated. The spelling uses "z" which has since been abolished and replaced by "s", and some words are spelled with "f" where modern Icelandic has v, e.g. "æfi" -> "ævi". Book Description. Colloquial Icelandic provides a step-by-step course in Icelandic as it is written and spoken today. Combining a user-friendly approach with a thorough treatment of the language, it equips learners with the essential skills needed to communicate confidently and effectively in Icelandic in a broad range of situations.

I own this book and I must say I like it. It gives detailed Icelandic pronunciation, has allot of grammar, has reading text even a large glossary from Icelandic to English. The glossary is like a large dictionary Icelandic-English.
So I think if you own this book you won't need an Icelandic-English dictionary just an English-Icelandic one/5(25). Icelandic is not an easy language to learn and this book is a real antique in its approach to language learning, so I can imagine the frustration of a student whose previous experiences are high school or college courses (say beginning Spanish or French) or a Berlitz or Teach-Yourself course with tapes or CDs/5.
